Irish National Suspected With Coronavirus Infection Flees From SCB Hospital In Odisha

Cuttack: A foreign national stated to be a native of Ireland who came to Odisha on Thursday and was suspected to be infected with COVID-19 has fled from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he was kept in quarantine.

As per reports, the Irish man, whose name is still to be identified was suspected to be infected with the Coronavirus while undergoing screening at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar yesterday. He was rushed to the isolation ward of SCB Hospital for detail diagnosis. However, later he was found missing from the quarantine.

A complaint in this regard was lodged at Mangalabag Police Station today morning.

At a time when the entire country is on a high alert in the swift outbreak of the deadly virus with both the Central and State Governments pulling up socks to contain the disease, the missing of the Irish man from SCB Hospital has raised questions on the security arrangements at one of the premier healthcare institutions of the State.

Neither the hospital authorities nor the police are yet to comment on the matter.

On the other hand, the swab samples of the suspected Coronavirus-infected Uttar Pradesh-based couple, who reached Paradip on March 1 have been tested negative. The couple was working as crew members in a ship named Chemstar Stellar and it had travelled through several parts of China and Singapore.

Meanwhile, Health department director, Ajit Mohanty on Thursday informed that at present, four Coronavirus suspects are undergoing treatment in special isolation wards of different hospitals across the State and their swab and other samples have been sent for tests.

The Ministry of Shipping has also taken stock of the Coronavirus situation with the authorities of Dhamara, Gopalpur and Paradip ports and State government officials through video-conferencing yesterday.
