Rourkela: As many as 11 minor children including nine girls were rescued by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Howrah-Mumbai Gitanjali Express at Rourkela station while they were being taken to Mumbai. Acting on a tip-off, Rourkela GRP personnel and Childline officials conducted a joint raid on the train and rescued the minors. Two middlemen have been detained for allegedly being involved in human trafficking.

During interrogation, the two detainees have revealed that the children were being taken to a madrasa in Mumbai for study. However, they failed to produce a valid document.

Reportedly, the minors were from Katihar area of Bihar. Following their rescue, the children have been kept at a short-stay home. Railway SP Arya Prakash Swain is inquiring into the alleged human trafficking.

It is pertinent to mention that human trafficking is rampant from tribal-dominated districts of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha.
