Helmets now compulsory for bikers on Khandagiri-Rasulgarh section of NH-16

Bhubaneswar: Close on the heels of series of road accidents on the busy Khandagiri-Rasulgarh section of the National Highway 16 in Bhubaneswar, the Khurda district administration has now made wearing of helmets compulsory for bikers moving on the highway junction.

According to sources, bikers riding their motorcycles will have to mandatorily wear helmets during movement on the busy section of the highway failing which they will be liable for action as per the law. The new rule will be in place for one month. The Traffic Police will keep watchful eye on the movement of the bikers through patrolling and also monitoring through CCTV installations at the black spots.

Speaking about the new norm, Khurda SP B.S Punia informed, “If anyone is found violating the rule and driving without helmet, he or she will be punished as per law”.

It may be noted that following directive of Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty last month, the Traffic Commissionerate had identified five black spots on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack highway and said that barricades would be put up on the designated places. Batabhuasuni temple near Janla, Aiginia, road near Siddharth Hotel, Acharya Vihar overbridge and Pahal have been marked as black spots. As part of the plan to reduce speed of vehicles during the day, the Traffic Police has decided to put up barricades from morning hours to 9 pm daily.
